More Than Tutors, Mentors Who've Walked the Path

Our founding team of PhD scientists from Imperial College and UCL don't just oversee the curriculum. They are a direct source of inspiration for our students. For many young people, meeting someone who has genuinely excelled in Biology, Chemistry or Maths at the highest level is the moment their ambition crystallises.

When a student sitting their A-Level Biology is taught by someone who has spent years doing cutting-edge research in genetics or neuroscience, the subject stops feeling abstract. It becomes real, purposeful, and worth fighting for.

"Having a tutor with a PhD in Neuroscience made me realise Medicine was genuinely within reach, not just something other people did."

Jahan Patel, now reading Medicine at Queen Mary, University of London

Completely Free, No Catch

Free University Interview Preparation

Getting an interview at Oxford, Cambridge, UCL or King's is an enormous achievement. Failing to convert it would be a tragedy. That's why we offer free interview preparation to every Sterling Study student who receives an offer.

🧠
Subject-Knowledge Deep Dives

We push beyond the A-Level syllabus into the territory interviewers actually probe, helping students think on their feet with unfamiliar problems.

🎤
Mock Interview Sessions

Our PhD scientists run realistic mock interviews in the style of the university your child is applying to, with honest and constructive feedback after each session.

📄
Personal Statement Structuring

For competitive courses like Medicine, Law and Natural Sciences, we help students frame their academic journey into a compelling personal statement narrative.

Tuition Built Around Your Child, Not a Generic Syllabus

Every student who joins Sterling Study gets a learning experience shaped entirely around them, their exam board, their school's pacing, their gaps, and their goals.

📋

Aligned to Your Exact Exam Board

Whether your child sits AQA, Edexcel or OCR, every session, every example and every past paper is drawn from their specific specification. Nothing generic. Nothing wasted.

🚀

Learning Ahead of School

We introduce topics before they are taught in class, so your child arrives at school lessons already familiar with the content. They ask better questions, absorb more, and build confidence that compounds over time.

📝

Exam Paper Practice From Day One

We don't save past papers for revision season. Exam-style questions are woven into every session from the very beginning, so students develop technique and timing as their knowledge grows.

🤝

Homework Help and School Support

Stuck on a school homework problem? Confused by something the teacher explained in class? Your tutor is there for that too. Sessions are flexible and follow what your child actually needs that week.

How A-Level Tuition Works at Sterling Study

No assessments. No pressure. Just a free trial session and a clear plan built around your child.

1

Book a Free Trial Session

Your child attends a full, live 1-to-1 session with one of our specialist tutors. No assessment. No forms. Just real teaching from day one, so you can judge us on what actually matters: quality of instruction.

2

We Build a Personalised Learning Plan

After the trial, your tutor maps out the full A-Level syllabus, identifies any gaps from GCSE, and agrees on a pacing plan with you and your child. Every student's plan is unique.

3

Weekly 1-to-1 Sessions with a Specialist

Every session is entirely dedicated to your child. No shared attention. No waiting for others to catch up. The tutor adapts in real time to how your child is thinking and where they are getting stuck.

4

Exam Technique and Past Paper Mastery

As exams approach, sessions shift towards past paper practice, mark scheme analysis, and examiner-style feedback. We teach students to write answers that examiners reward, a skill that can add two grades on its own.

5

University Application Support

For students targeting medicine, law, or competitive STEM courses, we support personal statement structure and interview preparation, the areas where subject knowledge intersects with how you present it.

Our A-Level Specialisms

We focus exclusively on five of the most demanding and consequential A-Level subjects, the ones that open the most doors and require the most specialist teaching.

📐

Mathematics

  • Pure: algebra, calculus, proof
  • Statistics: probability, distributions
  • Mechanics: forces, kinematics
  • Exam technique and timing

Why only these five? We only teach subjects we have genuine mastery and experience in. No compromises to quality of learning.

Covering All Major A-Level Exam Boards

Our tutors are trained across every major specification. Whether your child's school follows AQA, Edexcel or OCR, we match our teaching to their exact syllabus and past paper style.

AQA
AQA

The most common A-Level board. High content volume with synoptic papers that demand deep understanding across topics.

Edexcel
Edexcel / Pearson

Strong emphasis on mathematical application and data analysis. Particularly rigorous in Physics and Chemistry.

OCR
OCR / OCR A

OCR A places a strong focus on scientific methodology and evaluative questions. Popular in selective independent schools.

Why Sterling Study for A-Levels?

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything parents and students typically want to know before getting started.

Why doesn't group tuition work at A-Level?+
At GCSE, group tuition can work because the content is more structured and the gaps between students are smaller. A-Level is a fundamentally different beast. The jump in abstraction means that if a student misses one foundational idea, everything built on top of it becomes shaky. In a group of six or eight students, a tutor simply cannot stop and rebuild that foundation for one person without leaving the rest behind. The student who is confused stays confused, falls further back, and eventually disengages entirely. 1-to-1 removes that dynamic entirely.
How much harder is A-Level compared to GCSE?+
Significantly harder, and most students are unprepared for just how large the jump is. At GCSE, a bright student can often rely on memory and pattern recognition to score well. A-Level demands genuine conceptual understanding, the ability to apply knowledge to unseen problems, and the capacity to work under time pressure with very little scaffolding. In Maths, topics like calculus, differential equations and complex numbers have no GCSE equivalent whatsoever.
What is your A-Level pass rate?+
100%. Every Sterling Study student who has sat A-Level exams with us has achieved a grade C or above. More than that, the vast majority of our students graduate with A* or A grades. We back this up with over 10,000 hours of teaching experience across all subjects and year groups.
How is a free trial different from a free assessment?+
There is no diagnostic test or paper to complete. Your child simply attends a real, full-length tuition session on a topic of their choice. It's a chance for both sides to see if the relationship works.
Can we start in Year 12 and continue through to Year 13?+
Absolutely, and we'd strongly recommend it. Students who start with us at the beginning of Year 12 benefit from a consistent tutor relationship throughout the full two years. We build knowledge systematically from the foundations rather than patching gaps under exam pressure.
Do you help with UCAS personal statements or medical school applications?+
For students targeting competitive courses such as Medicine, Dentistry, Law, or Oxbridge STEM, we offer additional support around structuring personal statements and preparing for subject-specific interviews. This is something we discuss with families on an individual basis.
What if my child's school uses a different exam board?+
We cover AQA, Edexcel and OCR for all five subjects. Our tutors work directly with your child's specification and past papers, so the teaching is always board-specific rather than generic.
Is there a contract or minimum commitment?+
No contracts whatsoever. Start with the free trial and continue only if you see the value. Most of our A-Level students stay with us for months and years because of the results they experience, not because they have to.
My child is already in Year 13 and exams are close. Is it too late?+
It is never too late. Students often make their most dramatic improvements in the final months before exams when teaching is intensely exam-focused. We prioritise past paper technique, mark scheme literacy and rapid content consolidation for students joining late in Year 13.
